Second GA: What You Missed

Amandeus van Rossum
Staff Writer

The second GA of the fall semester was held on Tuesday November 19th in the Hofpleinkerk. Here’s a rundown of what you missed:

Common House/RASA News

  • Common House to open November 28th
  • RASA contribution fee – As part of the RASA membership fee, students pay €25 that is then donated to the Common House from RASA. As there was uncertainty regarding the status of the Common House, over the course of two years, RASA has withheld this donation. However, the full amount from both 2012-2013 (€13.500) and 2013-2014 (€14.175) will be donated immediately, as was approved by the GA.
  • Partnership agreement – The partnership agreement defines the relationship between RASA and Common House Elliott. According to the agreement, RASA has a role in organizing events and activities, while Elliott has a facilitative role, in that they provide the location and staff. The partnership agreement has not been published yet, but will be published on the Intranet sometime in the future.
  • RASA Birthday Week – Sunday, November 24, will be RASA’s 9th birthday; they will celebrate this occasion all throughout the week (November 25 – 29). RASA has planned various events throughout the week, such as a cake bake-off, dinner, drinks and parties. Take a look at their schedule.
  • RASA website – Justin Wies, AAC student advisor, is in the early stages of creating RASA’s first website.
  • New Society Guidelines – There is a new step-by-step outline, which clarifies how an idea for a society can become an actual society. These guidelines will be published on the Intranet soon.

AAC News

  • Revision week – There will be a revision week for all classes this semester and in the future, however it does not have to take place at the same time for every class. Professors must include in their course outlines two class sessions of revision time, if that is not done, the AAC has advised students to inform them, as this is a new mandated policy.
  • Internships – The AAC is trying to foster connections with businesses and organizations to facilitate more internship opportunities for students; this program would ideally start next semester. It will be possible to do these internships in addition to the regular university course-load and it will be for a short period of time. Depending on the amount of students interested, the AAC will evaluate on plans for future years.
  • Professor-student involvement – Next semester, the AAC would like for professors and students to foster better relationships outside of the classroom. They will plan informal sessions for students to get to know their professors better and vice versa.

Amandeus van Rossum, class of 2016, is a Law and Politics major from Witmarsum, The Netherlands.
