Monday, May 5th is a special day in the Netherlands– it is Bevrijdingsdag, or Liberation Day. On this day the Dutch celebrate the liberation of the Netherlands from the Germany during World War II. Throughout the last decades, this national holiday has also become a day to celebrate and reflect on the concept of freedom in general.
Liberation day is widely celebrated throughout the Netherlands and activities are organized everywhere. One of the national liberation day festivals will be organized in Vlissingen, with special performances by local and national musicians, such as rapper Gers Pardoel and Zeeuwse rockband Steady New Sounds. Entrance is free and it is a great chance to explore a part of Vlissingen, while enjoying the music. Moreover, if you do not feel like walking around town the entire day, you can also enjoy the lovely boulevard with a great view of the North Sea. For a complete overview of the acts and practical information, check out www.bevrijdingsfestivalzeeland.nl!
