Amir Pliev for AAC Chair

by Aimah Moiz

Can you please introduce yourself?

I am Amir Pliev, and I am in my second semester at UCR right now. I am from Chechnya (a Russian republic), but I have lived in Holland for ten years. I am majoring in Psychology and Law and I consider myself to be a cool, professional guy.

What position are you running for?

I am running for the AAC Chair position right now.

What in particular strikes you about the AAC?

I think UCR is a great place and we have something that not a lot of universities have, but there are still some things that I wish to improve. So my main goal and ambition here is to make things better and smoother. That is why I want to run for AAC because what better way is there to improve your university than to improve its academics?

Do you have anything specific in mind?

Like I said, I wish to improve things by smoothening them out. Now, we already have a lot. We have exchanges, we have internships, we have capstones, but I know that there are problems with these. For example, internships are really hard to find. Everything is down to the students to organize and I feel that for something so valuable, we should provide something for students to make it easier for them.  I am thinking of creating a platform, which allows students and companies to come in contact with each other easily, preferably through a site. These are the kinds of solutions and innovations that I want to strive for and apply to other aspects! For more details, go to any of my posters and scan the QR-Code!

Why do you feel that you would be the right person for AAC Chair?

I know myself. I know what I can and cannot do. And why I chose the chair position specifically is because I know that I by myself cannot organize the perfect event. But what I am good at is supervising people, making sure that everything is running smoothly, taking care of the team, asking my team members how they are progressing and at taking over some tasks to help them out. I am able to recognize paths that are successful and perform them confidently. That is why I wish to go for chair.
