Hunt of Mythical Creatures

Introweek is the opportunity for new students to explore what it is like to be a member of the social community of RASA. There are the societies portraying themselves in their events, the teams and fraternity/sororities during the beach walk, and generally there is the great interaction with fellow students. However, this week is not only the start of their studies, it is specifically the start of their studies in Middelburg. To introduce the Class of 2018 to the Capital of Zeeland, the foxhunt (nicknamed Hunt for Mythical Creatures, to fit the theme) lead them around important locations in the city centre in search of so-called ‘foxes’ (weird-ass oddball godparents dressed up goofily).

Starting after the GA, all the families went their separate ways with only a small clue about the location of the foxes. At the location of the foxes activities related to that place could earn a family stamps, and subsequently the family with the most stamps would earn most points. Tabula RASA interviewed one of the foxes to speak about his experiences.

Hello good sir, you are wearing a rather peculiar outfit, would you care to explain?

Hello to you too! How dare you speak in that tone about my impeccable taste in fashion!

I’m sorry, I did not mean to offend you. I was just pointing out that some people might not approve of that dead fox you’re carrying around.

This is not merely any dead fox! This is Freddy, my beloved dead pet fox. And I took it here because I heard there was going to be a foxhunt. And now suddenly I’m the hunted?! I do not understand. All these poachers in their yellow polos roaming the streets of Middelburg, it’s terrifying. I usually just lead them inside here, to the Zeeuws Archief just to be rid of them.

Also Hilde van den Berg, godparent during this introweek, seemed startled when I found her inside the Zeeuws Archief.

Have you seen this weird man standing outside?

Yes, and all the people from the Class of 2018 come in here completely upset.

I then just send them to the exhibition here to calm down.

What seems to be the problem?

His mere presence is scary. And he talks to that dead fox of his. And then there’s the Christmas tree. IN AUGUST! What is he thinking?

As we can see the foxhunt is definitely one of the unforgettable parts of introweek.
