Calvin Curry is a 4th semester student from India majoring in History and Literature. He is currently running for Elliott Bar Chair position and is very ambitious about it. Practicality, adaptability and approachability of our beloved and dear Common House are the features of main focus for Calvin. He strongly believes that Elliott needs someone who is business-minded but also easily approachable and open for innovations or any kind of ideas, because this is what will sustain Elliott and eventually lead to big positive changes.
What is your motivation for running?
I was on PartyCo, I had a position of GBM and then I went to Secretary. I really want to get more involved into overall planning of events. I also feel like Elliott is something we need to be proud of: we started it and we leave legacy behind it. And I want to be part of that.
Do you already have some certain changes in your mind or any ideas you came up with for Elliott?
I want to change the Bar experience and make it better through simple, cost-effective and practical ways that are actually achievable. I have already met with Elliott, looked at options and changes that can be put in action. The first aspect I want to change is furniture, with an addition of chairs and tables. It can be achievable by contacting night clubs and the places that are closing down or just reaching out to people who are in contact with Elliott. Elliott also has a budget so if needed I would also consider investing in furniture.
The second thing is an improvement of service in Elliott: workshops for bartenders, for example. I also want to provide bartenders and volunteers with booklets teaching useful facts and knowledge about alcohol and cocktails so that they could sell it better to the customers. The third thing I want to change is to improve the way we handle the selection of music. Of course, it is a job of PartyCo and I don’t want to take their responsibilities away but I would like to provide them with a framework to work. The next thing I would like to change is the kind of products that Elliott serves. I want to network with the companies more and get better deals for students. We have to efficiently use the products that we have already.
