Youran Kock for Koestraat Campus Elder

By Hilde van den Berg

Can you first introduce yourself?

My name is Youran Kock, I am 19 years old. I study science, and I am a 4th semester student right now.

What is the position you’re running for?

I am running for Koestraat Campus Elder.

Why this position?

I was talking with my girlfriend about running for big boards, and she said that HAC might be something for me, because it is really practical and I am a practical person.  I was not sure if I wanted to join a board, but then two days later, the person who is now the Koestraat Campus Elder [Zarah], asked me “Hey, have you thought of running for Campus Elder?”. I thought about it, and I thought to myself, why not run for Campus Elder? I am already floor elder, which I really enjoy, so I decided I wanted to take it a step further. I think it is a really interesting thing to do, and I think it will allow me to help a lot of people, hopefully.

Why do you think that you’re the right person for this position?

Right now, I am already trying to take care of small annoyances. For example we have these condense dryers, so you have to manually take water out of the dryer. People used to use a small drain for that, but then that got broken and the entire laundry room would flood. So I suggested to buy a small bucket, put all the excess water in there, and then I would empty it. I try to take care of things like these so that people can just live the way they want, and I like solving these kinds of problems. That is also why I should join HAC, because I am a practical person, rather than someone who does abstract thinking about an issue. I think I know a lot of people in Koestraat too, which is useful.

Do you have anything else you want to tell the readers?

I think it is a shame that I am the only person running, because I really like it when people have a choice. If there is choice, there is more competition. Even though people only have to approve of me now, I really want them to vote for me. Of course I do want to be Campus Elder, but I would like people to really want me to be Campus Elder, and not just pick me because I am the only one who is running.
