Bára for RASA CAO

By Anton Moggré

Bára Veséla is originally from the Czech Republic and is a second year interdepartmental in Social History, Theatre & Media Studies, and Sociology. This ambitious lady is determined to obtain this popular position as CAO for RASA’s new board, as she realized from day one that for all students, but especially for students that come from abroad, societies form the very cornerstone of our academic and personal development here at UCR. As an involved and passionate (board) member of several societies, Bára has no doubt that being the CAO for next year will lead to great times ahead.

What motivates Bára to take this amazing job?

Coming from a regular Czech high school, Bára was initially perplexed by the seemingly endless options a student has regarding our small but comfortable student life. As there was no stimulus at her high school to do extracurricular activities, or to see students working together to give other students a wonderful time, Bára values this possibility at UCR greatly, and considers it as the signature mark of UCR.

Being involved in several societies from the first day she arrived here, Bára quickly realized that this position is perfectly suited for her. Particularly after she took the position of treasurer in Litco, she recognized the complexity and challenges student societies can entail. However, it made her only more experienced in this field, and these days Litco is a prominent committee in UCR’s student life. “Previously, it was a rather small committee, but right now we are quite out there”, she says, with a happy and proud smile. Of course, this can only be reached through thorough and coherent team work, something she also encountered during her participation in the Tenth Anniversary Team, and currently in the Graduation Week Team. With the Tenth Anniversary Team, great creativity was showcased: think about the pancake meal on the Market Square, or the slumber party in Eleanor! But it also became evident that it is essential to be committed and to be able to rely on other people, because eventually nothing ends up in your hands for free.

Ready, Set, GO!

It is not the extensive experience she has in societies and other teams that makes her so determined to fulfill this responsible job, it is the realization and the acknowledgement of the importance of societies in our university that makes her so passionate about her candidacy. Bára would love nothing more than facilitating students in actually carrying out their ideas, by providing ambitious and creative circumstances to let the societies function effortlessly and collaborate with each other.

As a last remark, her slogan “let me build on this” is not just for fun, but a reference to the legacy of ten dedicated boards we have had before. “What we have established with only 600 students a year is, beyond doubt, impressive”, she devotedly claims. However, even more work can be done from this solid foundation, particularly emphasizing the “basecamp” role Elliot could fulfill for all societies. Elliott should, according to Bára, become the “hub” of all social life, where all societies have a place to blossom.
