Céline Budding, 18 years old, is in the run for AAC Student Advisor. I am meeting Céline, who was born in Dordrecht, The Netherlands, in Elliott, where she tells me one of her strongest motivations for running, is an honorable one: to help people.
Why are you running for AAC Student Advisor?
“Because I really like to help and explain things to people. I thought about running before and I really wanted to run for AAC, because I am most interested in academics and making sure that everything is okay, so that people don’t have to worry about that anymore. For example, in my house, I’m always the person that helps other people and advises them. I just like to know what’s going on, so that other people also are aware of what’s going on. I also looked at other board positions within the AAC and I really felt that Student Advisor would be the most natural position for me.”
Did you think of any improvements or changes you would like to make if you get elected?
“I want to make the UCR Council more visible, because we have a Facebook group, but I still think they can be more visible. For example, making sure that everybody knows when the meetings are, so that people can think about what they want the UCR Council to discuss. As Student Advisor, my main task would still be answering questions, handling complaints and just making sure that people know where they can go for help. For example, making sure that the first semesters know that there is actually a student advisor.”
Why should people vote for you?
“I would like people to vote for me, because it comes natural to me to help and communicate with people.”
