In this miserable time of it almost but not really being break, there’s only one thing that can save us from driving ourselves headfirst off of the nearest dune and into the ice cold sea: Christmas music. Time to get out your ugly sweaters and lights out, because honey we’re here to sleigh. As a goodbye 2016 article the TR daily board thought it was only appropriate to supply you with our top ten Christmassy songs to get you ready for tonight’s super festive gala.
“It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year” – Andy Williams
What better way to get you into the Christmas mood than with a true classic?! Although it is not really the most wonderful time yet -don’t know about you but I still have two deadlines #rip- the song surely keeps you going until you can finally throw everything out of the window and embrace the fact that you’ve got fuck all to do until late January.
“Baby, It’s Cold Outside” – Glee Cast Version
If one thing does it for me, it is this duet. The playful back and forth, the accompanying piano, and the harmonizing voices really set a hygge mood. It’s the feeling of coming home after a cold day and wrapping yourself up in a warm blanket with a steaming mug of hot chocolate and just taking that moment for yourself that this song sets the mood for.
“Santa Baby!” – Eartha Kitt
We are living in a material world; so if you still don’t know what to ask your Santa sugar daddy for Christmas, why not let this song inspire you.
“Jingle Bell Rock” – Bobby Helms
It is not really Christmas until you’ve danced to Jingle Bell Rock like you are one of the Plastics and performed your heart out. Don’t forget to kick that cd player while you’re at it.
“Last Christmas” – Wham!
When I think of the ultimate Christmas song, I think of “Last Christmas” by Wham!. This song has the special yet extremely annoying ability to be stuck in my head from late October to early January. It has all the elements of the ultimate Christmas song, a cheesy 90s video clip, distant bells ringing and a dramatic yet spirited refrain – what else do you need?
“All I Want For Christmas Is You” – Mariah Carey
The answer to that question is very simple: Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You”. The Christmas purist amongst us might agree with me that this, out of all Christmas songs out there, is the ultimate one. A 20-year younger Mariah parading around in a skimpy Santa outfit, frolicking with reindeer and puppies, darting around in the snow and serenading each and every one of us.
“Let It Snow!” – Frank Sinatra
One of the more “classic” Christmas songs would be “Let It Snow”. It embraces the ultimate wintery, Christmasy feeling of snow, romance, coziness and twinkling lights. To rehabilitate from the Fall semester, we advice to put on “Let It Snow”, burn some candles and curl up with a good book or a nice film.
“I’ll Be Home For Christmas” – Michael Bublé
If there’s one man who knows how to set the Christmas mood, it is Michael Bublé. His velvety voice brings you right back to the golden age of Hollywood without the ever-present discrimination. It’s easy, it’s warm, and it’s everything Christmas should be right in one song.
“Why Couldn’t It Be Christmas Everyday?” – Bianca Ryan
Why couldn’t it be Christmas everyday? That’s the question that’s on the daily board’s mind all year long. And now this song will be stuck in your head for at least a year too.
“Santa Claus Is Coming To Town” – The Jackson 5
Alright, one more! Only two more weeks until “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town” and whilst your preparing for your family festivities, Secret Santa parties with friends or just a few cozy days in, why not motivate yourself with one of the classic Christmas songs?
